Saito underwent an MRI Monday as scheduled, but club officials said the results would not be evaluated until Tuesday by team surgeon Dr. Neal ElAttrache, who would issue a diagnosis and course of treatment.
The 38-year-old closer left Saturday night's game in the middle of an at-bat with acute stiffness in the area of the elbow ligament, and on Sunday said he still felt the discomfort.
Manager Joe Torre on Sunday said the club was prepared for the worst, meaning surgery that would sideline the right-hander for at least the rest of this season, if not longer. Jonathan Broxton has assumed closer duties, Chan Ho Park might be moved back to the bullpen and the promotion of 20-year-old Clayton Kershaw is under consideration.

Kuroda, who threw a one-hitter in his Monday start against Atlanta and pitches Saturday against the Marlins, will open the three-game series in Arizona on Friday, followed by Chad Billingsley and then Lowe. Kuroda and Billingsley will be pitching on five days' rest, but Lowe will be pitching on 10 days' rest.
The Dodgers continue their trip to Colorado, where Chan Ho Park, Eric Stults and Kuroda will pitch and Lowe won't.

Since joining the Dodgers, Lowe is 1-4 with a 7.43 ERA pitching in Denver and 0-3 with a 10.95 ERA in his last three starts there.

Penny underwent an MRI three weeks ago that showed no structural damage in the shoulder, but has not had a cortisone shot, relying on therapy and anti-inflammatory medication.

Penny faced teammates Andruw Jones, Delwyn Young, Danny Ardoin and Luis Maza in the simulated game. He threw 46 pitches over three innings and made five more in the fourth before walking off the mound, speaking briefly to manager Joe Torre and trainer Stan Conte before leaving for the clubhouse.
Torre said that Chan Ho Park, who started in Penny's place Saturday, would remain in the rotation through the All-Star break, when the pitching order will be adjusted.
