Park moves to Dodgers' bullpen

박찬호가 결국 불펜으로 돌아간다. 마무리 사이토의 부상으로 다저스 투수진 운영에 변화가 생겼다.

MLB.com 다저스 홈페이지에 Park moves to Dodgers' bullpen 라는 제목의 기사에서 박찬호의 불펜행을 언급하였다.

조 토레 감독은 박찬호를 불펜으로 돌리고 박찬호 자리에 제이슨 존슨을 넣는다고 말했다.

Manager Joe Torre on Friday moved Chan Ho Park back to the bullpen, replaced him in the starting rotation with journeyman Jason Johnson and backpedaled a bit on Jonathan Broxton assuming the closer role from the injured Takashi Saito.

토레 감독은 "박찬호는 보다 중요한 역할을 할 것"이라면서 겪은 박찬호의 풍부한 경험이 브락스톤이 맡았던 셋업맨 자리에 이상적이라고 말했다. 그렇지만 박찬호가 통산 선발로서 활약해 왔고 올해에는 롱 릴리프로 역할을 했기 때문에 셋업맨으로써 매일같이 1이닝을 잘 던질지는 아무도 확신하지 못한다고 했다.

"Chan Ho may take a more prominent role," Torre said, indicating that Park's experience makes him ideal for Broxton's setup role, if not closer. But Torre said that because Park has been almost exclusively a starter through his career, as well as a long reliever this year, nobody was sure if Park could adjust to pitching one inning day after day.

"잘 해낼 수 있을 것으로 안다"라고 토레감독은 말했고, "이렇게 하는 것이 5~6일에 한 번씩 그를 기용했던 것보다 훨씬 자주 박찬호를 내보낼 수 있다. 그는 불펜에서 아주 중요한 투수이다. 박찬호 본인도 잘 이해하고 있다. 나는 게임을 시작하는 것보다 어떻게 끝내야 하는지를 더 걱정하고 있다"며 말했다.

"We know he can handle the heat," Torre said of Park. "This way I can use him more than once every five or six days. He's so valuable in the bullpen. He'd rather start, but he understands. I'm more concerned with finishing the game than starting it."

롱 릴리프보다는 셋업맨이 더 자주 등판하고 확실한 보직이지만 그래도 선발로 뛰는 것이 더 좋았을텐데 다소 아쉽다. 그렇지만 불펜에서 더 비중이 있는 역할을 하게된 것으로 위안 삼아야 겠다.
