MLB.com 필리스 구단 홈페이지에 Phils leave Vegas without reaching goal(필리스가 목적했던 것을 이루지 못하고 라스베가스를 떠나다.)’ 라는 제목의 기사에서 박찬호에 대한 아마로 단장과 매뉴얼 감독의 언급을 실었다.


아마로 단장은 "중간 계투나 임시 선발로 활용할 수 있는 박찬호와 협상했지만, 이러한 논의가 현재 어느 단계라고 말할 수 없다." 라고 언급했다. 


Amaro confirmed that he's talking with free-agent right-hander Chan Ho Park, who could be used in middle-inning relief and to spot start, but wouldn't define where those discussions are at the moment.

매뉴얼 감독은 “구단 관계자들이 영입 가능한 선수를 논의하는 중 박찬호 이름이 거론되었지만, 방에 모여 않아 계약 가능한 선수를 검토하는 과정에서 나올 수 있는 선수 중의 한 명일 뿐이다. 어떤 것을 의미하든지 박찬호 이름은 나온 것은 맞다."라고 말했다.

Manuel said that Park's name has come up when the brain trust is mulling possible acquisitions.

"But that's one of those deals that when you're sitting together in a room, you go over every guy available," Manuel said. "So, yeah, his name camp up, whatever that means."

필리스 구단 관계자들이 영입 가능한 선수로서 박찬호를 거론했던 것은 사실로 보인다. 그렇지만 아직 확정적이라고 말할 단계는 아닌듯 하다.

박찬호선수가 필라델피아와 계약이 임박했다는 기사가 나왔다.


야후 스포츠 Tim Brown에 의하면 박찬호선수가 올해 다저스의 미들 릴리버로 성공적으로 재기하였다고 적고 있으며, 54번 등판 중 5번만 선발로 등판하였을뿐 대부분 셋업맨으로 활약했지만 필리스 구단은 선발투수로 보고 있다고 전하고 있다.

필라델피아는 불펜진이 강한 반면 Jamie Moyer가 계약하지 않는다면 5선발이 필요하고 다른 선발투수인 Kyle Kendrick도 샌디에고 Jake Peavy의 3각 또는 4각 트레이드에 언급되고 있는 상황이다. 

박찬호는 13년 메이저 경력중 대부분을 선발로 보냈지만 2001년 이후에는 선발로서 효율적이지 못했다고도 적고 있다.

LAS VEGAS – Free-agent pitcher Chan Ho Park, who resurrected his career with a solid year as a Dodger middle reliever, is close to signing with the Philadelphia Phillies, a baseball source said Wednesday.

The Phillies might view Park as a starter, the source said, although the 35-year-old right-hander made only five starts last season in 54 appearances. He was 4-4 with 79 strikeouts and a 3.40 ERA in 95 1/3 innings, mostly as a setup man.

Philadelphia has a strong bullpen, with right-handers Chad Durbin and Ryan Madson setting up closer Brad Lidge. However, the Phillies need a fifth starter if they don’t re-sign left-hander Jamie Moyer. Another Phillies pitcher, Kyle Kendrick, has been mentioned in the three- or four-team trade that would send Jake Peavy from the San Diego Padres to the Chicago Cubs.

Park has been a starter for most of his 13-year career but hasn’t been especially effective in that role since 2001.

Still, it's early. And there was a report on yahoo.com last night that the Phillies were close to signing free agent righthander Chan Ho Park to a free-agent contract.

While Park most likely would go into the bullpen, he also could be used as a starter if necessary. Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. could not be reached for comment.

필라델피아 필리스면 올해 월드시리즈를 제패한 팀으로 내셔널리그 동부지구 강팀이다. 필라델피아는 좌완 Cole Hamels를 비롯해 Brett Myers, Joe Blanton이 내년에도 선발 로테이션을 이룰 예정이다. 나머지 선발을 Jamie Moyer와 Kyle Kendrick이 맡을 예정이지만, Jamie Moyer는 재계약을 확신할 수 없는 상태이고, Kyle Kendrick은 트레이드에 언급되고 있기 때문에 박찬호가 필라델피아와 계약한다면 두 선수 자리를 차지할 것으로 예상된다.

8일부터 열리는 윈터 미팅때  캔자스시티 로얄스가 불펜진을 중점 두어 강화해야할 것이라고 하면서 로얄스가 관심을 둘만한 릴리버 중 한명으로 박찬호선수가 거론되었다. 박찬호가 선발투수가 아닌 릴리버로서의 가치는 아직 남아 있나 보다.

Ramirez leaves a big gap in the 'pen. He worked 71 2/3 innings in 71 games and posted a 2.46 ERA with a 3-2 record, a save and 70 strikeouts. He wasn't acquired until last Spring Training in a swap that eventually sent starter Jorge De La Rosa to the Colorado Rockies. Ramirez was a sleeper who awoke to his full potential.

Nunez's best work came early in the season, giving up runs in just one of his first 20 appearances. Then a strained right lat cost him nearly two months and he wasn't the same afterward, although he finished strong. In 45 games, he posted a 4-1 record with a 2.98 ERA.

The free-agent market includes some right-handed relievers who might pique the Royals' interest, such as Juan Cruz, Brandon Lyon, David Weathers, Doug Brocail, Chan Ho Park, Bobby Howry and Kyle Farnsworth, among others.

Two of the items on the Royals' offseason wish list seemingly have been filled.

Dodgers offer arbitration to Ramirez, Lowe, Blake

다저스가 FA 3명만 연봉조정 신청을 했다. FA 14명 중 박찬호를 비롯한 11명은 구단으로부터 연봉조정 신청도 받지 못했다. Manny Ramirez, Derek Lowe, Casey Blake는 이달 7일 9시까지 연봉조정 신청을 받아 들일지를 결졍해야 한다. 


Manny Ramirez, Derek Lowe는 Type A로 분류되기 때문에 다른 구단과 계약하게 되면 다저스는 각 선수가 계약하는 구단으로부터 first-round pick과 supplemental pick을 각각 받을 수 있게 되었다. Casey Blake는 Type B로 분류되어 다른 구단과 계약시 supplemental pick을 보상받을 수 있다. 같은 Type B로 분류된 Joe Beimel, Jeff Kent, Greg Maddux에게는 연봉조정 신청하지 않았다.


드래프트 pick 보상이 없는 등급으로 분류된 박찬호에게 다저스가 굳이 연봉조정 신청을 할리는 없었을 것이다. 사실상 다저스 구단이 결별을 선언한 셈이다. 이제 박찬호는 다저스와 협상은 할 수는 있지만 다른 구단을 알아봐야 하는 수 밖에 없을 것 같다.

Blake, a "Type B" free agent, would net the Dodgers a supplemental draft pick if he elects to sign elsewhere.

The Dodgers did not offer arbitration to the following free agents: Joe Beimel, Gary Bennett, Rafael Furcal, Nomar Garciaparra, Jason Johnson, Jeff Kent, Greg Maddux, Pablo Ozuna, Chan Ho Park, Brad Penny, and Mark Sweeney.

After resurrecting career, righty would like to start again

LOS ANGELES -- Reliever Chan Ho Park is the latest Dodgers player to file for free agency, doing so Saturday.

The 35-year-old Park revived a career that began with the Dodgers in 1994. After pitching in only one Major League game in 2007, he made 54 appearances for the Dodgers in 2008, which included five starts. He went 4-4 with a 3.40 ERA and two saves in 95 1/3 innings.


Park has made it clear that he would prefer to start.


Park is the ninth Dodgers player to file for free agency, joining Manny Ramirez, Derek Lowe, Greg Maddux, Casey Blake, Joe Beimel, Nomar Garciaparra, Jason Johnson and Mark Sweeney. Still eligible but not filed are Rafael Furcal, Jeff Kent and Pablo Ozuna. If the Dodgers don't exercise options, Brad Penny and Gary Bennett also would be eligible to file.

앤드루,브라인언 카메네츠키 형제가 운영중인 블로그(sportsblogs.latimes.com/sports_baseball_dodgers)에 올시즌 다저스 투수진을 평가하는 글을 올라왔다. 그들은 박찬호에게 C등급을 주었다.


Report Cards: Pitchers 라는 제목의 글에서 박찬호에 대한 평가를 아래와 같이 했다.


Chan Ho Park: What began as the biggest resurfacing since Elvis sightings were the rage eventually evolved into the lowly expectations upon a return from the scrap heap.  After notching a 2.63 ERA before the All-Star break, Park more than doubled it during  August and September, 24.2 innings that produced 17 earned runs and countless cringes each time his number was called.  Great story while it lasted, but Park's a free agent, and I don't expect the Blue gambling on a third time charm. Final Grade: C


이에 한국 신문에서는 다음과 같이 해석했다.


"쓰레기더미에서 돌아온 뒤 그다지 기대를 받지 않은 박찬호는 전반기에만 방어율 2.63을 기록했으나 8월과 9월에만 24⅔이닝 17자책점으로 성적이 2배나 악화됐다. (올 시즌 재기 성공은) 훌륭한 얘깃거리이지만 FA가 되는 박찬호를 다저스가 3번째로 불러들일 것 같지 않다"


올시즌 54경기 등판하여 4승4패 방어율 3.40을 기록하여 비교적 준수한 성적을 거두었지만, 8월에 14경기 등판 1패 1세이브 방어율 6.00, 9월에 11경기 등판 1패 방어율 6.52를 기록하여 시즌 마지막 2달동안 부진했던 것이 부정적인 평가를 받는 것 같아 아쉽다.

Dodgers name three starters for NLDS

mlb.com에 게제된 기사이다. NL 디비전 시리즈에 로우, 빌링슬리, 구로다가 1,2,3 게임의 선발로 마운드에 오른다. 4번째 게임 선발로는 매덕스나 3일 휴식을 하게되는 로우가 오를 것으로 전망했다. 다저스는 디비전 시리즈를 11명 투수진으로 운영하는데 불펜진에 매덕스, 커쇼를 비롯하여 박찬호도 포함되었다. 


최근 4경기에서 연속 실점하는 다소 부진한 모습을 보였지만, 박찬호는 불펜진으로 포스트시즌 로스터에 합류했다. 현지시간 10월1일부터 시작되는 시카고 컵스와 디비전 시리즈에서 좋은 활약을 기대한다.

Dodgers name three starters for NLDS

Game 1 hurler Lowe to be followed by Billingsley, Kuroda


SAN FRANCISCO -- Derek Lowe, Chad Billingsley and Hiroki Kuroda will pitch Games 1, 2 and 3, respectively, for the Dodgers in next week's best-of-five Division Series, manager Joe Torre announced Saturday.

Lowe was the Game 1 starter for the Dodgers in their 2006 Division Series against the Mets. He allowed four runs and two home runs to Carlos Delgado and Cliff Floyd in 5 1/3 innings, earning a no-decision in the Dodgers' 6-5 loss.


Rookie Clayton Kershaw will pitch out of the bullpen, said Torre, who was non-committal about a Game 4 starter or the role of 42-year-old Greg Maddux, Saturday night's starting pitcher. Asked if Saturday could be Maddux's last start for the Dodgers, Torre said:


"I hope not."


Game 4 could be started by Maddux or by Lowe on three days' rest, although Torre has said he's no fan of bringing back pitchers on short rest in October, which he did with little success while with the Yankees.


"A lot of those decisions are made as the series goes on," said Torre. "We have the option to do that. I'm not sure we're going to do that."


Nor is Torre even sure who the opponent will be, as scenarios still exist for the Dodgers to face the Cubs or Phillies. Regardless, it will be on the road. The Dodgers were 2-5 this year against the Cubs (0-3 at Wrigley Field) and 4-4 against the Phillies (0-4 at Citizens Bank Park).


Torre said he would likely go with an 11-man pitching staff, in part because Takashi Saito hasn't returned to 100 percent health after missing two months with an elbow injury. In that case, the bullpen could include Kershaw, Maddux, Jonathan Broxton, Saito, Cory Wade, Chan Ho Park, Joe Beimel and Scott Proctor.


However, Hong-Chih Kuo could find his way back into the picture. He's pitched only once in three weeks because of triceps tendon discomfort, but Kuo was scheduled to throw an inning Saturday night in a final exam. Kuo had become the setup man to Broxton when Saito was injured.


"He could be in the mix," Torre said of Kuo. "We have to make sure if he's healthy."


The 20-year-old Kershaw was beaming after getting the news that he'd make the postseason staff.


"Just being part of this is the thrill of a lifetime," Kershaw said. "I'll help them any way I can."


Kershaw has been primarily a starter in his brief career, pitching out of the bullpen twice this year while at Double-A Jacksonville. Those were extended appearances for a total of eight innings and the role change didn't seem to bother him any, as he allowed two hits, struck out six with one walk and no runs allowed.

Park in the pen

Chan Ho Park said he wants to be a starter again -- and he said that if he has to choose this winter between staying with the Dodgers as a reliever or signing elsewhere as a free agent to be a starter, he probably would move.

"Being a starter is more meaningful to the Korean fans," he said.

But Park, 35, said he has no problem pitching out of the bullpen for the Dodgers, who gave him an opportunity to extend his career when he thought it might be over.

"I'm willing to sacrifice for this team," he said.

Park called pitching out of the bullpen "a learning experience," saying he feels more fatigued than he ever has at this stage of the season. His numbers reflect that. Over his last three outings, he has given up seven runs (six earned) in 2 1/3 innings, raising his earned-run average from 2.48 to 3.05.

Because he goes to the ballpark every day thinking he might pitch, Park said he has been unable to run and lift weights to stay in shape the way he was able to as a starter.

Though he said the psychological demands of relief pitching weigh on him, Park is happy these days. His wife is expected to give birth to their second child next month.

박찬호선수가 MLB.com에 실린 Park: Korea's gold medal 'amazing' 라는 기사에서 한국이 2008 베이징 올림픽에서 야구 금메달을 획득한 것에 대해 놀랍다는 소감을 밝혔다.

박찬호는 토요일 다저스 클럽하우스에 들어섰을 때 자랑스러운 아버지가 된 것 처럼 느껴졌다고 했다. (Chan Ho Park felt like a proud papa when he walked into the Dodgers' clubhouse on Saturday) 그리고 올림픽에서 금메달을 땃다는 데 대해 말할때는 흥분으로 박찬호의 입술이 떨렸다고 기사는 적고 있다.

PHILADELPHIA -- Chan Ho Park felt like a proud papa when he walked into the Dodgers' clubhouse on Saturday, the excitement radiating off his lips when he spoke about the gold medal the Korean baseball team won at the Olympics earlier that day.

"Amazing, isn't it? Amazing," said Park, the first Korean to play in the Majors. "I couldn't play, but I was dreaming that they would win, get a medal, any medal."


South Korea rolled through the Olympics with a 9-0 record, winning the country's first baseball gold medal with a 3-2 victory over favored Cuba in Beijing. The game ended dramatically, with the Koreans inducing a bases-loaded double play.


Although the contest started at 6 a.m. ET, Park said he got text messages from friends and family that kept him awake when he found out the result.


Park did not get to play for the Korean team, but he helped out by keeping in contact with the players. Besides sending good-luck text messages, he also provided general information about American and Canadian hitters and how to play certain situations.


"This is the biggest in baseball history in Korea, and it's going to start alerting baseball people about Korean baseball," Park said. "I just feel so happy for them. I heard what was happening after nine innings, the double play. ... It's unbelievable. I was wishing."

Key stretch starts as Kershaw gets call

클레이튼 커쇼가 다시 메이저에 콜업되어 콜로라도와 화요일 경기에 등판한다.

당초 콜로라도 원정경기에 박찬호가 등판하기로 되어 있었지만 박찬호가 셋업맨으로 불펜에 복귀함에 따라 커쇼가 대신 선발로 나선다.

Clayton Kershaw will be promoted to start Tuesday night's game against the Rockies, part of what could be a busy 10 days of Dodgers roster moves leading up to the Trade Deadline.

커쇼는 올시즌 메이저에 올라와 8경기에 등판하여 승리없이 2패 4.42 방어율을 기록했다. 7월 마이너로 돌아가서는 3번 선발에 2승 무패 1.00 방어율을 기록했다.

The 20-year-old Kershaw was promoted on May 24 from Double-A, went 0-2 with a 4.42 ERA in eight starts for the Dodgers and was returned to Double-A on July 2, going 2-0 with a 1.00 ERA in three starts.
