박찬호 관련 기사 - KND Report: NL Eas

젊은 왼손투수인 햅과 오른손 노장투수인 박찬호 중 누구를 선발 로테이션에 포함시킬 것인지를 결정한 것이 필라델피아 구단으로서는 이번 스프링 캠프에서 중요한 결정 중 하나였다. 한창 물오르는 미국 출신 어린 선수와 내리막을 걷고 있는 한국 출신 노장을 크게 대비시키는 것은 상상하기 어려운 일이다.

One of the big stories of the spring was who would fill out the rotation. James Happ, a young lefty, would battle it out with Chan Ho Park, an aging righty. It’s hard to imagine a greater contrast in pitchers: the up-and-coming American kid vs. the over-the-hill Korean man. 

(그렇지만) 한국 출신 노장은 스프링 캠프에서 21.1 이닝 동안 방어율 2.53, 이닝당 사사구비율 1.03의 놀라운 기록으로 선발자리를 차지했다. 필리스선수 중에 단지 조 블랜튼 만이 박찬호보다 더 많은 이닝을 소화했다. 블랜튼은 스프링캠프에서 매우 잘 던졌다.

The Korean man won the battle, as Park had an excellent spring, putting up a 2.53 ERA and a 1.03 WHIP in 21.1 IP. Only Joe Blanton threw more innings than Park, who looked extremely sharp.

But that’s just the spring, and Park has struggled in any ballpark not named Dodger Stadium, the only place where he has a career ERA below 3.00, in at least 15 IP. 

주전 선발로 뛴 다른 두 구장(알링턴의 텍사스구장과 샌디에고 PETCO 구장)에서는 박찬호 방어율은 4.23 이하를 기록하지 못했다. PETCO 구장은 투수에게 매우 유리한 구장 중 하나이다. 필리스의 시티즌 볼 파크 구장에서 박찬호는 10이닝을 투구하였고 통산 방어율 4.50을 기록했다.

In the two other parks where he’s started on a regular basis—Rangers Ballpark in Arlington and PETCO—his ERA doesn’t get below 4.23, and that’s in the friendliest park for moundmen in the league. His career ERA in Citizens Bank Ballpark, where the Phillies play? 4.50 in 10 IP. 

나는 분명 박찬호를 응원할 것이다. 그러나 박찬호에게는 극복해야 할 몇가지 것이 있다. 5선발로서 박찬호는 매우 심한 경쟁을 겪지 않을 것이고 가끔은 선발로테이션을 건너 뛰기도 할 것이다. 단지 이러한 상황만이 박찬호에게 도움이 될 것이다. 

I’m definitely rooting for him, but he’s got a lot to overcome. As the fifth starter, he won’t face fierce competition and may have his spot skipped now and then, but these will only help him.

박찬호 말고는 대만 출신 린옌펭이 있다. 그는 마이너리그 Low-A에서 구원투수로 뛰고 있다.

Behind Park, there’s only Taiwan’s Yen-Feng Lin, a pitcher at Low-A Williamsport. Lin has been used as a reliever, but couldn’t make Taiwan’s Olympic squad, so he’s got a ways to go, and at 24 is old for his level.
