Phillies Notebook: Park wins fifth spot in Phillies rotation over Happ

짧은 순간이었겠지만, 박찬호가 5선발 경쟁에서 그를 이겼다는 것을 전해들었을 때 햅이 느꼈던 실망감은 (극복하는데) 분명 쉽지 않을 것이다.  토론토와의 야간 경기 두시간 전에 박찬호가 햅에게 가만히 다가와서 햅의 등을 두드렸다. 그리고 몇분간 햅과 이야기를 나눴다. 필리스 투수들이 레프트 필드에 모여 경기전 스트레칭을 시작할 때 햅은 머리를 끄덕였고 박찬호에 바라보고 격려를 보냈다.

CLEARWATER, Fla. - It was a small moment, one that certainly won't ease the disappointment J.A. Happ felt yesterday when he was informed righthander Chan Ho Park had beaten him out for the fifth spot in the rotation, but it is worth noting. Two hours before a night game against the Toronto Blue Jays, Park sidled up to Happ, patted him on the back, and spent several minutes talking to the young lefthander. When it was over, and the Phillies pitchers who were gathered in leftfield began their pregame stretch, Happ nodded his head, looked at Park and gave him a pat of his own.

Looking at Park's sparkling spring record - a 2.53 ERA, 25 strikeouts, and just two walks in 21 1/3 innings - it is easy to see why the Phillies decided to give him a shot at rejuvenating himself as a starter, a role in which he last had significant success while a member of the Dodgers in 2001.

매뉴얼 감독과 더비 투수코치는 햅에게 신뢰를 표현했다. 더비 투수코치는 햅이 커터와 체인지업에서 단지 꾸준함이 부족했을 뿐이라고 말했다.

Both Manuel and pitching coach Rich Dubee expressed confidence in Happ, who finished the spring with a 3.15 ERA. Dubee said the only thing Happ is missing is consistency, particularly with his cutter and changeup.

Park, who will be available to pitch out of the bullpen Sunday and Tuesday before making his first start on April 12, convinced the Phillies this spring that he was capable of starting the season with a spot in the rotation.

Happ, meanwhile, will attempt to win a four-way battle for the final two spots in the bullpen. Also in the competition are veteran righthander Gary Majewski, Rule 5 righthander Bobby Mosebach and newly-acquired lefthander Jack Taschner. Amaro said none of the four players were guaranteed spots, even Taschner, who will make $830,000 this season but has minor league options available.
