선발 로테이션의 다섯번째 자리를 놓고 벌이는 경쟁이 계속되고 있다. 현재까지로는 J.A 햅과 박찬호, 둘 간의 레이스로 되어가는 듯 하다. 햅은 계속 인상적인 투구를 보여주고 있다. 햅은 좋은 밸런스, 자신감 그리고 구질을 보여 주었다. 햅은 내(Shay Roddy)가 볼때 5선발 경쟁에서 이길 수 있는 새로운 선두 주자이다. 박찬호는 이전까지 5선발의 선두 주자였다. 박찬호는 여전히 좋은 모습을 보이고 있지만 게임 중간에 선발에 이어 불펜투수로 나오는 상황에서 더 좋은 결과를 보여 주었다. 로메로가 시즌 초 50경기를 결장하는 것을 고려해 볼때, 불펜투수 역할이 박찬호에게는 가장 적합한 역할인 것 같다.

The battle for the fifth start in the rotation continues. Now it seems to be a two man race between J.A Happ and Chan Ho Park. Happ continues to impress. He shows good poise, confidence, and stuff. He's my new front-runner to win the spot. Park was my original front-runner for the job. He still looks good, but has done a good job in out of the bullpen situations. That seems to be the role he'd fit best in, considering Romero will miss the first 50 games.

J.A 햅은 스프링캠프 등판에서 8이닝 동안 안타 6개, 2실점 허용하였고 삼진 8개를 잡았다. 이번 등판이 스프링캠프 4번째 등판이며 투구수는 60개로 예정되어 있다. 26살 왼손투수인 햅은 지난 토요일 타이거즈와 경기에서 3이닝 무실점, 볼넷 없이 삼진 8개를 잡는 인상적인 투구를 보여 주었다.

Though pitching coach Rich Dubee has declined to name a front-runner in his race for the fifth starter, the man whose numbers have been most impressive thus far will take the mound this afternoon against the Tampa Bay Rays.
J.A. Happ, who has allowed two runs and six hits while striking out eight in eight innings, expects to throw about 60 pitches in his fourth start of the spring. The 26-year-old lefthander is coming off an impressive outing against the Tigers Saturday, when he struck out seven and walked none in three scoreless innings.
Happ's chief competitor - at least in terms of on-field production - pitched yesterday in a simulated game at the Joe DiMaggio Field across from Bright House Field. Chan Ho Park, who has allowed two runs in seven innings with five strikeouts in Grapefruit League play, pitched two innings against a team made up mostly of minor leaguers. Park, who said he was unhappy with his curveball, struck out three but hit two batters with pitches and allowed a solo home run to veteran catcher Chris Coste.
