일요일 파드레스를 5-4로 이긴 경기에서 3회 3실점 한 것에 대해 수비의 문제점을 지적하고 있다. 에드가 곤잘레스의 1타점 3루타는 에러로 봐야 한다는 것이 글쓴이의 생각이다. 이 타구를 단타로 처리했으면 1사 1,2루 였을 것이고 다음 타자 자일스의 2루 땅볼 때 더블 플레이로 이닝을 마쳤을 수도 있었을 것이다. 물론 결과론 적인 이야기지만.

우선 필리스 선수로서 박찬호의 두번째 선발 등판은 여기가 시티즌 뱅크 파크 구장을 감안하면 그렇게 나쁜 결과는 아니었다. 이날 경기는 필리스가 9회말 라울 이바네즈의 두점 역전 홈런으로 파드레스에 5-4로 역전승했다. 

First of all, Chan Ho Park's second start as a Phillie was not as bad as the numbers here at Citizens Bank Park, where the Phillies have come back to hand the San Diego Padres a 5-4 defeat in the bottom of the ninth inning on a two-run home run by Raul Ibanez.

파드레스에게 3회 3점을 허용했는데 수비가 매끄러웠다면 1점으로 막을 수 있었고, 다소 행운이 있었으면 실점을 하지 않을 수도 있었다. 

The Padres scored three in the third inning when better defense might have meant one or even none with a little luck.

사고는 선두타자인 8번타자 카브레라로 시작되었다. 카브레라는 번트 안타로 진루하였고 투수 기어의 희생번트로 1사 2루가 되었다.

The mayhem began when No. 8 batter Everth Cabrera led off with a bunt single and was sacrificed to second by pitcher Josh Greer.

카브레라는 다음 타자 게럿의 우전 안타때 3루를 지나 득점했다. 우익수 맷 스테어스는 홈으로 들어오는 주자를 잡을 기회조차 잡지 못했다. (주전 우익수였으면 홈에 승부를 해 보았을 것이라는 뉘앙스이다.)

Cabrera then took off for third on a pitch Jody Gerut lined into right field for a single, giving Matt Stairs no chance to throw home for a possible out.

다음 타자 에드가 곤잘레스는 좌익수 이바네즈 쪽으로 가라 앉는 라이너성 타구를 날렸는데 좌익수가 전력을 다했으면 잡을 수도 있었다. 그러나 이바네즈는 마지막 순간 공을 잡으려고 슬라이딩 했지만 공을 잡는데 실패하였고 공은 이바네즈를 지나쳐 펜스까지 굴러 갔다.

Edgar Gonzalez followed with a sinking liner into left field that Ibanez flat-out should have caught. He not only failed to make the play, but the ball went past him and rolled all the way to the fence after he made a last-second slide in an attempt to catch it.

결국 1타점 3루타가 되었다. 놀랍지도 않게 이런 상황이 요즘 MLB에서는 공식적인 득점으로 인정된다. 더이상 에러로 기록되지 않는다. 이야기가 옆으로 흘렀다.

It was scored as an RBI triple, no real surprise, given the state of official scoring in Major League baseball these days. There's really no such thing as an error anymore. But I digress.

이어 곤잘레스는 브라이언 자일스의 2루 땅볼때 홈으로 들어 왔다.

Gonzalez came home when Brian Giles grounded out to second.

필리스 투수들이 홈런으로 점수를 허용하는 것은 그들의 스타일인 것 같다.

That said, Phillies' pitchers continue to give up the long ball like it is going out of style.

아드리안 곤잘레스는 5회 우월 솔로 홈런을 기록했다. 만일 당신이 집에서 계속 기록하고 있었다면 이번 시즌 11경기에서 26번째 허용한 홈런이라는 것을 알 수 있을 것이다. 이 추세대로라면 필리스는 이번 시즌 382개 홈런을 허용하게 된다.

Adrian Gonzalez sent a bomb into the right-field stands in the fifth. If you're keeping score at home, that's 26 homers surrendered through 11 games this season. That puts the Phillies on pace to give up 382 homers for the season.

또 한가지 잡설: 라이언 하워드가 개막전 이후 1루 수비를 하는 방식으로 계속 플레이한다면 골드 글러브를 차지할 수 있을 것 같다. 매순간 돌아보면 하워드는 타구를 다이빙으로 막아냈고 전력으로 질주하여 파울볼을 걷어 냈다.

Another thought: Ryan Howard could win a Gold Glove this year with the way he's been playing first base since opening day. Every time you turn around, he's making a diving stop or a sprinting catch of a foul ball.

하워드는 오늘 두번의 놀라운 플레이를 보여 주었고, 센터 방면의 3루타도 기록했다.

He's made two sensational plays already today and has tripled to center field.

골드 글러브 상은 선수들간 투표로 결정되나 - 대부분 선수들은 타자로서 성적을 높게 평가한다. - 하워드가 이러한 수준의 플레이를 보여 준다면 수상할 기회를 잡을 수 있을 것 같다.

Factor in how the award is determined -- by a vote of the players (who mostly look at hitting stats as the biggest factor) -- and Howard should have a very good chance if he keeps up this level of play.

하워드는 9회 중요한 순간에 투스트라이크 이후 중전 안타를 처냈고 이바네즈에게 기회를 넘겼다. 작년에는 이러한 상황에서 하워드는 10번 중 9번 삼진을 당했다. 이번 시즌에 그는 안타를 만들어 내는 능력이 더 향상되었다.

Howard also reached out and poked a two-strike bloop single to center in a magnificent at-bat in the ninth to set up Ibanez. Howard strikes out nine times out of 10 on the same pitch in the same situation last year. This year, he's making much better contact.

필리스 투수들이 좋아진다면 내셔널 리그 다른 팀들에게는 두려운 생각이 들 것이다.

Truly a scary thought for the National League, if the Phillies can ever get their pitching together.
