News: The Philadelphia Daily News reports that Phillies starter Brett Myers is likely to require surgery that would sideline him for three to four months. The Phillies are awaiting a prognosis from hip specialist Bryan Kelly, but the expectation is that he will need to undergo surgery to repair a torn labrum.

In the meantime, the Phillies have several options should Myers need surgery. Righthander Chan Ho Park spent the first month and a half of the season in the rotation before losing his job to lefthander J.A. Happ. Righthander Kyle Kendrick, who spent the last half of 2007 and all of 2008 in the Phillies' rotation, is 4-3 with a 4.25 ERA at Triple A Lehigh Valley and is on schedule to pitch next Tuesday, when Myers' next turn would be.

If Myers can't pitch, Amaro said the Phillies immediately would look internally to fill the void in the rotation. He said Carlos Carrasco, Kyle Kendrick, Andrew Carpenter and Antonio Bastardo are candidates. It appears Chan Ho Park is not a candidate and will remain in the bullpen.
But an internal solution might not be the final solution. The Phillies are expected to step up their efforts to acquire starting pitching, although that will not be easy.

PHILADELPHIA -- Phillies righty Chan Ho Park may have resurrected his career last season in middle relief, but that doesn't mean he feels at ease in the bullpen.

His first relief outing since leaving the rotation came in Cincinnati on Thursday, when he pitched a scoreless eighth in Philadelphia's 12-5 victory.

Even if Park is still getting acclimated to his new surroundings, he is up to the task.

He lost the job because Phillies starters, who entered Tuesday with a Major League-worst 6.35 ERA, have not pitched deep into games, which is putting a strain on the bullpen. The Phils are concerned that the bullpen's heavy workload in April and May could translate into burnout come August and September. And because left-hander Jamie Moyer and right-hander Joe Blanton are not candidates to be replaced, Happ for Park was the only viable option.

Good work by the offense and the bullpen got him off the hook as the Phils went on to an 8-6 win.

This is a complicated issue. Moyer is one of the most respected people in the entire organization. He led the team in wins last year. His next win will be his 250th. He is not a viable bullpen option. He will be given every opportunity to pitch himself out of his current funk. The team is trying to help facilitate that by moving his next start from tomorrow to Wednesday. That will allow him to miss the Yankees this weekend and pitch against Florida, a team he has dominated, next week.

Blanton is a starting pitcher. He has a reputation for eating innings. He is not going to the bullpen any time soon.

Park has now made seven starts. Five of them have been poor. The Phils are completely justified moving him to the 'pen now, if they choose. It seems likely that at some point in the coming weeks - maybe this week - they will go that route. Romero is due back from his suspension early next month. That will give the bullpen another lefty to compensate for a possible move of Happ.

The starting rotation was an important part of that success. Phils starters pitched 966 innings, third most in the NL. Teams that get innings from their starters don't overwork their bullpens.

The bad luck came in the form of Feliz's error and Jayson Werth's hesitation in the seventh. With Chad Durbin pitching and Carlos Delgado on first, Fernando Tatis grounded to Feliz, and the normally stellar third baseman threw the ball into right field. Werth fielded the errant throw, but he underestimated Delgado's chance of scoring and double-clutched the ball in his glove. The extra time allowed the runner to dash home ahead of Werth's throw.

박찬호는 5/6일 메츠와 원경 경기에서 시즌 첫 승리는 기록하지 못했지만 6이닝 무실점으로 역투했다. 투구수는 91개 였으며 안타 1개, 볼넷 2개만 내주고 삼진은 5개를 잡았다. 시즌 방어율은 6.67로 많이 내려갔다. 리그 최고의 좌완투수인 요한 산타나를 상대로 밀리지 않는 경기를 했다. 역시 박찬호는 위기에 강한 선수인 것으로 보인다.

ST. LOUIS - When he was not dominating hitters in the Grapefruit League, Chan Ho Park spent much of spring training smiling, joking, and discussing his patriotism. Yesterday, he sat in a chair in front of his locker, speaking quietly while trying to explain his 8.57 earned run average.

Meanwhile, Park is racing to correct his issues, even attempting in his bullpen sessions to add a cutter, a pitch he has never thrown. But he said that the primary problem has become one of confidence.

PHILADELPHIA -- Phillies right-hander Chan Ho Park still has a job in the rotation.

It's time for Chan Ho Park to go. I know the IronPigs are playing well and could get to .500 for the first time in franchise history tonight (except for when they were 0-0 at the start the last two years, of course), but you can't tell me that Carlos Carrasco, Kyle Kendrick or even Drew Carpenter couldn't be a more serviceable starter than Mr. Park, who they tell me hasn't looked good since spring training. And you know when you pitch bad at home, the crowd makes it much worse than if you pitch poorly on the road. They're not exactly the most supportive types, those Philly fans.
