작년 필리스에서 선발투수로는 실패했지만, 불펜투수로 50이닝 동안 홈런없이 삼진 52개 볼넷 16, WHIP 1.18으로 큰 활약했다고 적고 있고, 가끔 집중력을 잃어버리긴 하지만 이 문제만 감수한다면 1년짜리로 계약할 가치가 충분하다고 전하고 있다.

Jim Hendry has publicly stated that he wants to add another veteran arm to the bullpen (this despite the fact that the Cubs already have some good young arms in Esmailin Caridad and Justin Berg, among others). There have been several rumors flying the last few days about who this pitcher might be, so let's examine three of them.
This tweet from SI's Jon Heyman indicated that the Cubs had interest in Chan Ho Park, who did an excellent job for the Phillies last year after they yanked him from their rotation. Park was horrific as a starter, posting a 7.29 ERA in seven starts, but once moved to the bullpen he put up solid numbers. In 50 relief innings he struck out 52, walked only 16, had a 1.18 WHIP and allowed zero home runs. According to the guys I spoke to on the hotstove.com preseason roundtable discussion yesterday, Park occasionally suffers from "lack of focus", but if the Cubs can deal with that problem, he'd probably be worth having on a one-year deal.
Heyman's tweet also indicated the Rays are looking at Park. They're doing so likely to replace Joe Nelson, who, according to this Chicago Breaking Sports article, has expressed interest in joining the Cubs. Nelson pitched for the Rays last year after bouncing around from the Braves to Red Sox to Mets to Royals to Marlins for several years before that. He got hit pretty hard after the middle of May and was finally sent outright to Triple-A on August 1 and DFA'd (see, some teams actually do that!) in September. He's 35 and has really only had one good year -- his 2008 season with the Marlins.
Noah Lowry, who at one time appeared to be yet another solid starting pitching arm coming out of the Giants organization, has had a series of injuries and health problems, including being diagnosed with thoracic outlet syndrome, described at that link as:

아직까지 팀을 찾지 못한 박찬호지만 마이너 계약이라니 이건 좀 아닌 듯 싶다. 더구나, 박찬호는 스스로 메이저 계약을 받을만 하다고 여전히 생각하지만, 메이저 계약을 보장 받지 못한다고 말하기도 어렵다 라고 약간은 박찬호를 평가절하 하는 듯한 인상이다.

Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle reports that the Giants have interest in free agent right-hander Chan Ho Park, but only with a minor league deal.
No surprise, Park still thinks he deserves a major league contract. It's hard to say he doesn't deserve it. He clearly doesn't belong in the rotation, but the 36-year-old right-hander was fantastic out of the bullpen with the Phillies last season, tallying a 2.52 ERA and 52/16 K/BB ratio in 50 innings.

Park, though really is not the late inning reliever that the Cubs would prefer, but he would provide versatility for the Cubs as he could be a middle reliever, as well as a spot starter for the Cubs.
Park could be the Cubs top choice via free agency, as they have already downplayed their Interest in Kiko Calero.

PHILADELPHIA -- General manager Ruben Amaro Jr. said late last week that the Phillies probably would sign a reliever in a couple weeks, sometime after Christmas.
It will not be Fernando Rodney. There are reports he has agreed to a two-year, $11 million deal with the Angels.
It also is unlikely to be right-handers John Smoltz, Chan Ho Park and Mike MacDougal. The Phils have some concerns about Smoltz's durability, which might not be an issue except closer Brad Lidge and setup man J.C. Romero are recovering from elbow surgeries.
Philadelphia and Park appear to have reached a stalemate in negotiations. Amaro has said the club does not expect him back. The Phillies have expressed interest in MacDougal, but talks are not believed to be serious.
CSNPhilly.com reported Wednesday that the Phillies have reached an agreement with a reliever, pending a physical.
A good bet is right-hander Danys Baez, who has closing experience. That is something the Phils might need if Lidge and Romero are not ready to start the season.
Baez went 4-6 with a 4.02 ERA in 59 appearances last season with the Orioles.
He pitched for Charlie Manuel, when Manuel managed the Indians, in 2001-02.
Baez is 35-49 with a 4.04 ERA and 114 saves in his eight-year career with the Indians, Rays, Dodgers, Braves and Orioles.

The Philadelphia Phillies have an agreement in place with a relief pitcher, according to Jim Salisbury of CSNPhilly.com -- we just don't know yet who the pitcher is. Salisbury's source says that the agreement with the mystery player is pending a physical, which will occur in the first week of the new year.
With Fernando Rodney and the Angels having agreed to terms, the two likeliest candidates for the Phillies' bullpen appear to be Danys Baez and Mike MacDougal. ESPN.com's Jayson Stark linked Philadelphia to Baez earlier, and another of Salisbury's sources confirms that the team's focus has been on the right-hander lately. We also heard earlier today from Matt Gelb of the Philadelphia Inquirer, who said that the Phillies had been in touch with MacDougal. Scott Lauber of the News Journal mentions some other possibilities, but agrees that Baez and MacDougal look like the top two relief targets for Philadelphia.

But they have informed right-hander Brett Myers that he will not be on the 25-man roster against the Dodgers. Right-hander Chan Ho Park will take his place, a team source said. The Phillies also have decided to go with 11 pitchers instead of the 12 they carried in the NL Division Series against the Colorado Rockies, the source said. They have added infielder Eric Bruntlett to the roster. He replaces right-hander Kyle Kendrick.

9/22일 philly.com의 Injury-plagued Phils face an uncertain October 라는 기사에서 아마로 단장은 정규시즌이 끝나기 전 박찬호선수가 복귀 가능할 것으로 말했으며, 23일 Phillies Notebook: Injured Phils relievers Romero, Eyre making progress 라는 제목의 기사에서는 박찬호선수가 다음주에 등판 준비가 가능할 것이라는 아마로 단장이 언급했다고 적고 있다. 햄스트링 부상에서 빨리 회복하여 포스트시즌에서도 던지는 모습을 기대해 본다.

The Phillies' best and most versatile righthanded reliever this year - who would have thought? - felt a pop in his hamstring last week but is recovering more quickly than initially expected. General manager Ruben Amaro Jr. said Sunday that Park could pitch again in the regular season. As with all other hobbled relievers, though, he will be rusty if he does return.
박찬호는 어제 캐치볼을 했고 2급 햄스트링 부상에서 예상보다 빠르게 회복하고 있다. 박찬호의 확실한 복귀일자에 대해 필리스는 언급하고 있지는 않지만 아마로 단장은 다음주에는 등판 준비가 가능할 것이라고 말했다.

Another important reliever, righthander Chan Ho Park, played catch yesterday and continues to progress faster than expected after suffering a Grade 2 hamstring strain against the Nationals on Wednesday night. Although the Phillies have not announced a definite timetable for Park's return, Amaro said it is possible he will be ready to pitch next week.

Phillies assistant general manager Scott Proefrock said shortly before tonight's home game against the Nationals that relief pitcher Chan Ho Park will miss two to three weeks after tests earlier this afternoon showed a Grade II strain in his right hamstring, sustained on the last pitch he threw in the seventh inning of Wednesday night's win.

Park will remain with the Phillies for "the next few days," Proefrock said, before heading to Clearwater, Fla., for rehab.

클럽하우스에 들어와서도 눈에 띄도록 불편하게 보였고 바지를 갈아 입을 때도 불편해 했다. 박찬호는 심한 통증을 느꼈다고 했다.
"When he threw the ball, like I see him, he almost went down," Phillies manager Charlie Manuel said. "He pulled a hammy, and he pulled it pretty bad."

The 36-year-old righty was in visible discomfort in the clubhouse afterwards, walking with an obvious limp and struggling to put on his jeans. He said he felt significant pain.
Park hurt his push-off leg while throwing the 10th and final pitch of his outing. He induced a soft line drive from Ryan Zimmerman to first base, which turned into an inning-ending double play. The barrel of Zimmerman's bat came splintering towards Park, but that had nothing to do with the injury, which happened during the delivery.
"This is like a pop," said Park, who will be reevaluated by head trainer Scott Sheridan and the team's medical staff on Thursday.

After losing his rotation spot in May, Park has been stellar out of the bullpen. The 36-year-old veteran has allowed 14 earned runs in 50 relief innings (2.52 ERA), picking up 15 holds, striking out 52 and walking just 16. He has earned the trust of Manuel and become a stabilizing presence while other relievers went down with injuries and struggled with inconsistency.
