- I can see him walking down the street.
- I saw a bird flying in the sky.
- Have you ever seen the movie, "Die Hard"?

2. look

- She looks pale.
- He looked at her with love.
- Look who it is.

3. watch

- He watches TV every day.
- Watch out! A car is coming.
- They got into a fight while they were watching the baseball game.

1. tell

- He told us about the matter.

- My mother told me to wash all the dishes.
- I told the children to go there.

- He's seven years old and he still can't tell the time.

5) tell의 목적어로 a word, a name, a sentence, a phrase 등이 올 때는 tell을 쓰지 않고 say를 씁니다.

- She said a meaningful word this morning. (O)
She told a meaningful word this morning.(X)

- She said that she would see the doctor.

- She said to me that she would be late.
She said me that she would be late.(X)
- He said to me that it was my last chance.
= He told me that it was my last chance.

- She said 'Go there'. (O)
She told 'Go there'. (X)

- 'What's your problem?' I said. (O)
'What's your problem?' I told her.(X)

- He said whether I wanted to see the film.(X)
- He told whether I wanted to see the film.(X)
- He asked whether I wanted to see the film.(O)

- say a question (X)
ask a question (O) 질문하다
- say an order (X)
give an order (O) 명령하다
- say an instruction (X)
give an instruction (O)
- He gave an order for special food.

3. talk

- Could I talk to you about OO for about half an hour?
- He talked all afternoon.
- He talked about music.

Go or Come?

English2006. 8. 8. 19:29

1. Go

  * Are you going to the pub tonight?
  * Let's go and see Auntie Mary before the holiday is over.
  * They've gone to live in Australia and I don't think they'll ever come back.

2. Come

  * Could you come here for a minute, please, Diane? ~ I'm coming.
  * We've come to ask you if we can borrow your car for a week.
  * I've got some people coming for a meal tonight.
Can you and Henry come too?

3. Go back, Come back, Return

Go back, Come back, Return을 사용할 때도 같은 룰이 적용됩니다. 단, Return은 Come back이나 Go back을 대신하여 모두 사용할 수 있습니다.

  * You must have come back / returned very late last night.
I didn't hear you come in.
  * He went back / returned to Mexico
when he had finished post-graduate training.

  * I'm going to the hospital this afternoon to get the test results.
    Could you come with me?
  * We're going to Egypt for a week at Christmas .
Would you like to come with us?

House

  * 'Most people in Britain live in semi-detached houses.'
  * 'We're going to buy Emma a doll's house for Christmas.'
Emma
  * 'The Houses of Parliament in London are visited by 50,000 people each year.'
  * 'I've enjoyed living abroad for the last six years,
but it's time for me to go back home now!'
  * 'We were at home in bed when our car was stolen from outside the house.'
  * 'These children need a good home and we are in a position to give them one.'

마찬가지로 'houseproud', 'housework'과 'homework', 'homesick' and 'homeless'의 차이를 보면

  * 'I did my housework (i.e. cleaning the house) this morning and my homework
(work given to me by my school to do at home) this afternoon.'
  * 'People say that I'm houseproud because I spend so much time cleaning
the house so that others will admire it.'
  * 'She said that she was missing her home and family so much.
      She sounded really homesick.'
  * 'I am homeless. I have no home to go to.'

Tense

English2006. 7. 20. 12:13

현재 : I live in Seoul.
과거 : I lived in Seoul.
미래 : I will live in Seoul.

  - 현재,과거 구분은 have 동사로 구분하고, 미래는 will+have+pp를 사용하여 표현합니다.

I have lived in Seoul.
I had lived in Seoul.
I will have lived in Seoul.

  - 현재,과거 구분은 be 동사로 구분하고, 미래는 will+be+~ing를 사용하여 표현합니다.

현재진행 : I'm living in Seoul.
과거진행 : I was living in Seoul.
미래진행 : I will be living in Seoul.

    즉, have+been+~ing형태가 됩니다.

I have been living in Seoul.
I had been living in Seoul.
I will have been living in Seoul.

if-clause

English2006. 7. 19. 22:43

Conditional sentences

  조건절(if-clause) = present tense/modal,  주절(main clause) = will/going to/modal

If the conditions are good over Christmas or the New Year, we may go skiing.
If you go to the pub again tonight, I'm going to lock you out of the house.
If you can't come to see us next weekend, we'll come and visit you.
If you complete the work by lunchtime, you can take the afternoon off.

  조건절(if-clause) = past simple,  주절(main clause) = would + infinitive

If I were you, I would go there.
If you weren't such a poor dancer, you would get a job in the chorus line
in that musical.
If you weren't so blind to his faults, you would realize that he was out to
    swindle you.

  조건절(if-clause) = past perfect,  주절(main clause) = would have + past participle

If I had passed the exam, I would have registered for the civil engineering
    course at Nottingham Trent University.
(실제로 과거에 시험에 합격하지 못한(I didn't pass the exam.)
If we had managed to get there by nightfall, we would have slept
in a comfortable bed and not on the ground.
(실제로 우리는 거기에 가지 못한 (we didn't manage to get there) 경우 입니다.)
